Plot

Divine G, incarcerated at Sing-Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose in life by performing in a theater group with other inmates in this story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. At the beginning of the film, the actors try out different roles in the play.

The group is criticized for not acting in a comedy, although their previous play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is a comedy. Featured on Late Night with Seth Meyers: Anna Faris/Coleman Domingo/Jose Medelez (2024).

I liked this movie, even though it’s not a movie I would see in a theater

I saw this movie as one of those detective movies where you don’t know what you’re seeing until you’re there. I had a few moments that brought tears to my eyes, and it’s impressive to know that half the cast is a real prison theater crew.

I was about to start when I found out it was Sing Sing, but the movie grabbed my attention and kept me there until the end

Again, the cast consisted mostly of inmates who were part of a theater group, and they did a very good job considering their only experience was in prison.
