Plot
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is built on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. When I started watching this limited series for AppleTV+ starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, I had no idea what an experience I was in for
Crap! Based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, written for the screen and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Disclaimer is at its core a revenge story. Blanchett plays Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past resurface in alarming ways, forcing her to confront that past that turns her entire life upside down.
Blanchett is fantastic here as always and Kline also delivers a solid performance
This was a masterfully told story that takes us on a fascinating journey of discovery as the audience is shown (sometimes in vivid detail) the “events” of Catherine’s past. It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did it justice. Despite some minor criticisms, I highly recommend this series if you like character dramas with a little extra suspense/intrigue.

Note: There are some pretty graphic depictions of sex/intimacy shown in various episodes. The series is not action-packed and it took about half an episode (about 30 minutes) before I was finally “hooked” on the story. But boy am I glad I stuck with it.
