The documentary is a two-hour look into the creative process of Hayao Miyazaki and follows six long years of work during the production of The Boy and the Heron, the latest film from the master of Japanese animation. This was a very moving and funny documentary. Kaku Arakawa is able to closely follow Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process during the production of The Boy and the Heron. It does a great job of mixing scenes from Miyazaki’s films with the real people who worked in the production of the film and people who are/were important to Miyazaki. I saw this film at the Helsinki Love & Anarchy International Film Festival. At some moments the audience laughed out loud, at other moments people were peeling off their layers. I hope Miyazaki can make more films. I can’t recommend this documentary enough to any Ghibli fan.
