Plot

A Montana family faces off against others who are encroaching on their land. Forry J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a veteran of the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts back to the SoCal accent he usually uses.

This series has been running since 2018, but I just watched it for the first time

Last night I finished the first episode of season one, which is almost 90 minutes long. As for the Dutton family, we see that they have a lot of influence in their valley, but they are fighting off “attacks.” One is a developer who wants to put up condos. Another is from a neighboring Native American reservation who wants to get some of their land back, as well as some livestock. Dutton (played authentically by 60-year-old Kevin Costner) has a couple of grown cowboy sons and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot to help him deal with that and the sheer size of the ranch.

"1883" which is sort of a prequel

) was to feel for the Dutton family because I’m currently watching ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s new show. (Fictional) In 1883, the Dutton family from Tennessee joins a larger group to drive “somewhere west” from Fort Worth, Texas. They must have stopped when they got to Montana. Again, this is fiction, but given the ages of the men and the fact that Costner was born in 1955, his character would likely be the great-grandson of patriarch Dutton (played by Tim McGraw) in 1883, for example.

With sons born in 1875, 1900, 1925 and the 1950s

"Yellowstone" a very good series, all the actors are on level, the cinematography and sound are also excellent. It’s just not a show I can invest in and keep watching. It’s hard to find characters with redeeming qualities and I really don’t like long-running series that constantly focus on arguments and fights and often murders. Now that I’m 70, I prefer "pleasant" stories.

NB – "1883" is a really nice and interesting series, as it authentically presents the great difficulties of putting down roots and traveling into unknown territories to try to find a new life in a new place
